Review of Chessington Howl'o'ween 2015

Chessington Howl'o'ween returns with two brand new attractions for 2015 and ThemeParks-UK was invited to a special preview of the event on Thursday 22nd October.

SPOILER WARNING: our review does contain spoilers, so if you want your experience to be a complete surprise don't read on...

The exclusive preview event began with Creepy Cocktails in the Temple Bar before meeting some of the creatures from the Hairy & Scary Show which will take place daily throughout Howl'o'ween. After a short trek through AMAZU to see the animals and across the park to Wild Asia, we enjoyed the rides as it got dark until it was time to try out the new attractions.

Curse of the Lost Tomb was first, a fully actor led interactive experience where you enter the lost tomb of Genghis Khan. This offers something different to the Halloween attractions at Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, as in each section you are met by a character that tells you the next part of the story and often needs your help. The storyline is good and the acting is brilliant, it was really enjoyable solving puzzles as you went along and the high quality sets and special effects make it a pretty immersive experience. We won't share the story or puzzles as that would spoil it, but it feels a bit like the Crystal Maze. It's located at the Explorers' Outpost in Wild Asia, and gets the full '3 bats' rating as it is designed for older children (recommended 8+) and adults, with some fairly scary characters and loud noises.

Afterwards we ventured over to Trick or Treat Wood which has to be one of the wackiest Halloween attractions we've experienced. You're first met by Top Hat by the bewitching tree who asks a question, get it right and take the Treat path or get it wrong and take the Trick path. We got it right the first time, so went back around for another go afterwards to see what happens on the other path too! Either way, you come across a series of weird and wonderful characters that interact with your group, from fairies and goblins to a moaning groaning tree! You're made to do some daft things and it's clearly designed to appeal to younger children so gets the '2 bats' rating. It is located near Trail of the Kings and is entirely outdoors, with good use of theming, trees, lighting and smoke.

As always, Chessington World of Adventures is decorated really nicely for Halloween with pumpkins, straw bales, spooky eyes and lighting all over the theme park.

Chessington Howl'o'ween runs from 23rd October until 2nd November, with the park open 10am-8pm every day except 10am-5pm on 2nd November.
