The roller coaster started life in 1988 as the Roller Coaster at MetroLand in Gateshead, where it operated at the indoor leisure park until 2008. A single train has 14 cars with riders arranged 2 across in a single row accommodating a total of 28 riders.
The ride was manufactured by the German roller coaster giant Zierer and designed by Albert Stengel. The Big Sheep had hoped to open the roller coaster last year, but various delays meant that the ride opening had to be postponed.
Other rides and attractions at The Big Sheep include the Twister Ride, Vintage Pony Carousel, Eweston Train Ride, Farm Safari Tractor Ride, Piggy Pull Along, Tractor School and Swan Pedalos.
