Kynren – An Epic Tale of England returns to its spectacular Bishop Auckland stage in County Durham. 

Running every Saturday evening throughout the summer, from 27th July to 14th September 2024, the 90-minute show is a truly unique experience not available anywhere else in the UK.

Performed by a cast and crew of almost 1,000 volunteers on a 7.5-acre outdoor stage, this multi-award-winning live action spectacular delights and dazzles the senses, with its mix of hand-to-hand combat, stunts, horsemanship, pyrotechnics and special effects.

The impressive Kynren provides an unforgettable experience taking audiences on a thrilling adventure through 2,000 years of history and legend.

From Boudicca’s battles with the Romans to the clash between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, through the Medieval, Tudor, Georgian and Victorian periods, and the two world wars of the 20th century, this is the story of England with a regional emphasis.

There's some impressive 'magic' involved in bringing the story to life, a dramatic soundtrack accompanies the action, and by the end you will likely be left speechless by the epic scale of this show.

New for 2024 – Return of the Vikings!

This pre-show experience is a brilliant addition. Venture into the Viking Village where history comes to life in vivid detail as the warriors prepare for battle. Marvel at the craftsmanship as sparks fly at the working blacksmith's forge, where authentic chainmail is meticulously crafted before your eyes. Experience Viking life as you visit the cookhouse, complete with its very own vegetable patch, and the woodworker's cottage nestled into the hillside.

In future years there are plans to open 11Arches, where Kynren takes place, as a 45 hectare visitor attraction every day during the summer. We would love this, so that Kynren becomes the finale to a whole day of discovery and adventure.

Comparisons with Puy du Fou

Kynren launched in 2016, and it was created in collaboration with Puy du Fou, which acted as an artistic partner in the first season.

French historical attraction operator Puy du Fou has since announced plans to open a theme park in the UK, celebrating British history and culture.
