10-year masterplan for Puy du Fou UK revealed

A detailed 10-year masterplan for the proposed Puy du Fou UK theme park has been revealed, with the attraction operator set to bring its unique brand of historical storytelling to Britain.

Puy du Fou is a theme park concept like no other. Globally recognised for its highly immersive environments and spectacular live performances, the two existing theme parks have achieved critical acclaim for their storytelling and use of technology. The new proposed UK theme park, located near Bicester in Oxfordshire, is set to offer visitors a chance to step back in time and immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of Britain.

From April to October each year, Puy du Fou UK will welcome guests into a stunning, wooded theme park filled with beautiful landscaped gardens. The park will feature four distinct period villages, each designed to showcase a different era of British history. Guests will enjoy the 13 world-class live shows, including six outdoor performances and seven indoor experiences, all designed to bring history to life in an unforgettable way.

The park's unique layout has been thoughtfully planned to offer a seamless and immersive experience. The main entrance will be located on the northern side of the park, with a circular pedestrian route guiding visitors around the main water features. The villages and shows will radiate off this central path, ensuring that all guests can easily navigate through the various attractions while enjoying picturesque views of the landscape.

To complement the immersive experience, Puy du Fou UK will offer three themed hotels on the eastern side of the site. These hotels will each be inspired by different periods of British history, allowing guests to extend their journey into the past. The new accommodations will feature all-family rooms, designed to sleep between four to five people, and will be open only during the park's operating months from April to October, apart from the conference centre hotel which will be available year-round for corporate bookings.

The development of Puy du Fou UK will occur in eight phases over the next decade, with each phase of work being influenced by the growth in visitor numbers. The park’s outline planning application, set for submission in 2025, will outline the key elements of the site, including land uses, building heights, access, and parking. The local community will be consulted throughout each phase of development.

Puy du Fou, which has earned multiple awards for their historical live shows and immersive experiences, first announced plans to bring its unique concept to the UK in July 2024. After engaging in extensive public consultation, the team has further refined its plans to create a truly exceptional historical attraction in Oxfordshire.

With their immersive shows, period villages, and themed hotels, Puy du Fou UK promises to offer a one-of-a-kind experience that blends education with entertainment, making it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and families alike.

Puy du Fou wants to create a new British cultural and historical attraction and has selected a site near Junction 10 the M40 motorway in Oxfordshire, roughly three kilometres north of Bicester, near the village of Bucknell.
